About the Teton Pass Ambassadors

Teton Pass Ambassador Program

Launched in 2020, the Teton Pass Ambassador Program is a cornerstone initiative of the Teton Backcountry Alliance (TBCA), created to support the long-standing efforts of ambassador Jay Pistono. What began as a volunteer effort to greet visitors and encourage responsible use has grown into a robust program with both paid and volunteer ambassadors.

Teton Pass Ambassadors play a vital role in protecting access to one of the most cherished backcountry ski areas in the country. Stationed at key trailheads during peak use times, ambassadors welcome users, share real-time information on conditions and safety, and help manage trailhead parking and traffic flow in collaboration with WYDOT.

Most ambassadors are experienced backcountry skiers who bring deep knowledge of Teton Pass and a strong commitment to the community. Through friendly engagement and education, they help reduce conflict and  promote stewardship.

Mission

The mission of the Teton Backcountry Alliance Ambassador Program is to promote safe, respectful, and sustainable backcountry use on Teton Pass. Through education, outreach, and presence at key trailheads, our ambassadors foster a culture of stewardship, reduce user conflict, and help protect long-term public access to the Pass. We strive to build community, share knowledge, and inspire responsible recreation in the heart of the Tetons.

Training

Each TBCA Ambassador completes training sessions designed to prepare them for the unique challenges and responsibilities of working on Teton Pass. Training covers  safety, public engagement, trailhead protocols, and coordination with partner agencies like WYDOT.

Ambassadors will take part in a two-day orientation that covers the roles and responsibilities of a Teton Pass Ambassador, as well as ways to collaborate with partner agencies such as the Forest Service, WYDOT, TSCAR, and others.
